02/12/19 7:20 pm (A) David Lloyd WB 1 Lost 3-2 (6-15)

Result was 2-2 tonight.
I lost to a very strong number 1 (Millie Tomlinson - women’s world number 25).
Matt struggled valiantly on one leg due to his knee injury and would have beaten his opponent if he was even half fit.
Joe played well and made easy work of his game.
Martin didn’t play particularly well but ground out a result.
We lost the match because we didn’t have a 5th player and I am confident that we would have won at 5.
That cost us 8 points and we are now at the bottom of the table. Had we won, we would have leap-frogged David Lloyd.
Very disappointing.
As well as desperately needing the points, it is very embarrassing to turn up to a first team Division 1 match with only 4 players.
Please can someone explain why we didn’t draw up from the second team (who are mid-table and can in turn draw up from the 3rd team)???

09/12/1 97:30 pm (H) Grantham 2 Lost 3-2 (10-17)

Another 3-2 defeat - 3 games going to 3-2 unfortunately 2 against our 3 & 4
Martin Wright  started first on court 1 - He likes to get his money's worth but went down in the 5th having been 2-1 up.
Matt Hogg moving up to 5 played well - the first 2 games he could well have won from 13 all - but in both cases 2 simple errors cost him. and he went down in 3.
I had the difficult match of the night to mark - Joe is never easy - neither was his opponent and I had the most complaints particularly from the opposition player this season. He was sharp and a very good player and in the end
deserved his victory in the 5th - the 4th  which he lost, leaving him not very happy, lost due to the marker, at least that is what i guess he was thinking, if not saying.
Matthew Maclachlan still struggling with a knee problem did well to come back after losing the 2nd and 3rd games 3 & 6 to win in the 5th but by this time the match was lost.
It was left once again to Steve Franklin at No.1 to salvage 3 more, what could be valuable points by the end of the season. He did it once again with some remarkable retrieving which left his opponent dumb founded on occasions. He did lose the 3rd before achieving the team's 10th point. I did ask his wife what she fed him on. I need some.

11 all in games won but 16-11 against.

We nearly got started on time tonight - just as well as Steve Franklin on last  with the task of helping to record the 1st team's first win of the season, did not finish his match with an old team mate until 2200 hrs. Steve had  said that  his opponent was the better player, having lost 3-2 a week or so earlier, Unfortunately he was right and went down 3-1 to  a very fit and skillful player - though 10 years younger - and Steve  is still a relative pup at 50+. So it was not to be and  another 3-2 defeat - 3 of the matches going  to 5. Matt Hogg brought into the side for Joe Pygall, repeated his magnificient performance last week for the second  team,  coming from 2-0 down to take his match 3-2 - his oppponent having to resort to 3 rackets because he hit the  ball so hard he broke 2 lots of strings. I am tempted to give MJW the man of the match award as he was  the only one  that won 3-0,  at the same time as Matt was on court and gave us a 2-0 lead. But it may be unfair, as both Phil Mobley and Matthew Maclachlan both played well against good players  and both lost 3-2. So  a good effort all round chaps. Maybe next time.

For tot the first time  our opponents tonight, currently top of the table, were all raring to go on time and we only had our no.5 present. Not good enough chaps.

If you are going to be late you need to let the captain know. We start at 7.30 not be there for 7.30.

Martin W got us under way on time on  ct 1 - I did not see the game as he had a close 1st game by which time I was marking on ct 2. I am told that he could have won 3-0 but lost by the same score - 15/17 14/16 14/16 - so it was tight. He is working hard these days.

Phil Mobley at 4 lost the 1st game but came fighting back, both players playing well - Phil managed to hang on to the 4th to come home 17/15 and a 3/1 victory.

Joe Pygall under the guidance of Ct1 referee Dave Hardern, who had some contentious decisions to make on what bit I saw, and there were more apparently - but Dave thought it right - overall - Joe lost 2 of the games 7 & 4 though won the 5th 15/12 - Although I did not see most of that match, on balance Phil, who has not played to his own standards,  as he would like recently, takes the MOM award over Joe.

Matthew Mac is obviously struggling with his knee  and could not match his opponent after the first game. Nearly the end of the season Matt. You can then rest up and make sure you are fit for next season.

Steve Franklin on last against a talented Michael Plant - Steve played well and looked as though he might take the 3rd when he was 11/8 up. Unfortunately he  went down 15/12. so a 3/2 defeat but only 6 points to score.

16/03/20 7:30 pm at Home Trent Bridge 3

The last match of the winter season v Trent Bridge 3 at home tonight.
It was not our fault we were delayed starting. Martin W was on court waiting for his opponent who wanted to go on first at No2.
By the time England International Rachel Woodward arrived Lyndon Kennedy was under way playing at No 4.
Lyndon did not fair well against his opponent. He was bamboozled twice with corkscrew serves before lost 3-0.
Martin was being pushed to 5 and it was Rachel who came out on top 15/10 in the 5th.
The 1st team were fielding 3 second team players tonight and Andy Edwards playing at 5 ran his socks off. Some amazing retrieving I think must have taken its toll and he went down to 9 in the 5th.
Matt Hogg continued his amazing form this season winning 3-1 at No 3 ( note to captain ). So the match was gone when Matt Mac went on court. Some terrific hitting on his favourite forehand saw him go 2 up but it went to 5 in end. Matt winning 15/9
Matt Hogg has had a lot of justified praise this season, and he could have been in line with Andy Edward for MOM but Matt Mac who I think is still struggling with his knee sneaks it. Unfortunately that leaves the team propping up the table. But a good result considering. Matt Hogg certainly has his eyes on a 1st  team slot next season.
